The 1959 Jazzmaster Journeyman Relic from the 2023 Fender Custom Shop Collection pays homage to the iconic 1959 model that debuted 65 years after the original Jazzmaster's introduction in 1958. This impressive model is loaded with meticulously revived looks, sound, and vibes of the original Jazzmaster era.
The refined two-piece select ash body features a Journeyman Relic lacquer finish in Chocolate 3-Color Sunburst. This special finish reproduces the appearance of a well-maintained instrument that has changed hands or been passed down over the years, embodying the atmosphere of moderate use in homes, occasional jam sessions, or weekend gigs. It superbly replicates the well-cared-for, light-checking, endearing wood dings and dents, and subtle hardware aging.
The rift-sawn maple neck has a '62-style Jazzmaster 'C' profile, a 9.5-inch radius flat-lam rosewood fingerboard with 21 narrow-tall (6105) frets, and a bone nut. To enhance the vintage vibe, it features a valuable early Jazzmaster specification—a single-ply gold anodized pickguard, two Custom Shop hand-wound 62 Jazzmaster pickups with a 3-way pickup switch, and a vintage dual-circuit (lead/rhythm). It also incorporates wiring for a unique modern touch, with 250k volume and tone potentiometers to improve tone and playability.
Additional premium features include Fender's 'Floating Vibrato' tailpiece, a Modern Custom Shop RSD (Research Special Design) bridge for sustain and tuning stability, vintage-style tuners, and a wing string tree. It comes with a deluxe hardshell case, strap, and a certificate of authenticity.
